When we started Paisadventure in 2016, we dreamed of making Colombia a better place through tourism, cultural exchange, and giving back to students in our community. The biggest threats to that dream have always been corruption deep rooted in the government, social injustice, systemic discrimination, and the rising level of poverty. We stand 100% with the Colombian people protesting against devastating tax and health reforms, the senseless murders of indigenous and Afro-Colo...mbian activists and community leaders, the lack of support for the education system, the absurd salaries of members of congress and government officials, exploitation of the country’s natural resources for political gain, and the fictitious peace process, among countless other issues that Colombians have been sick and tired of putting up with for generations. We vehemently denounce the violent tactics used by the national police in our cities, the murders of unarmed protesters, and the disappearances of those who have raised their voices against the government. We call on the country’s leaders to take responsibility for the human rights violations they continue to commit in front of the eyes of the world. We also denounce anyone taking advantage of the chaos to loot, vandalize, or commit an act of violence in any case whatsoever. We never imagined in our worst nightmares that we would see what’s been happening the past 10 days. But we also believe in a better country and a better future for all Colombians. This is the moment to secure the change that we’ve always dreamed of, with better opportunity for everyone and without the fear of each government being more corrupt than the last.
